Holy Communion is the mysterious celebration of Christ laying down his body and blood so that we might have eternal life. Christ is really present to us in the bread and wine, and in the body of Christ, which is the Church. God’s grace is uniquely given in the celebration of Eucharist (another word for Communion). This week’s comic is taken from John Wesley’s sermon, “The Duty of Constant Communion,” (1787, read it at this link). Well, except for the Lord of the Rings stuff (read this link for some great insight on the spiritual significance of lembas bread in Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings mythos).
