Allonsy Original Sin!  John Wesley was disturbed to learn that Christians were starting to abandon the concept of total depravity.  His sermon on Original Sin holds onto the traditional Christian belief that everyone in and of themselves is sinful to the core.  But this root of sin is like a disease, like a blindness that infects all of humanity from seeing God, from knowing God, and therefore makes it impossible for us to love God.  We cannot cure ourselves, so God is like this Great Doctor who enters our existence and removes the disease that caused our blindness.   Salvation is the therapy of the soul.

It’s still unfashionable to claim total depravity.  But maybe that’s just because we prefer to be better than other people.
