Bye George: Miss Me When I’m Gone
George Whitefield begged John Wesley to keep his Arminian ways silent. The Methodist revival was blooming, thousands of people had new-found faith…why create a division over non-essential doctrine disputes over predestination and free will? So John remained silent, up to the moment George got on a boat for America. John cast lots (Remain Silent, or Preach & Print) as soon as George was gone, sneaky devil. And that’s when he printed his sermon Free Grace, which led to the first major split in the Methodist movement, just as George predicted.
