Happy/Crappy Valentine’s Day from the Bros!  There’s a ton of contemporary Christian songs that just sound like 80’s love songs, but they’re about God because you capitalize the “Y” in “You,” or say “Jesus” where you would normally just say, “Baby.”  I remember a youth retreat dance in High School where one of the slow dance songs was “Draw Me Close To You,” and all of a sudden this song I’d always sang with deep worship to God was suddenly about the girl I was awkwardly holding around the waist and slow-stepping back and forth with.  I was like so totally offended.

But then I came to understand Song of Songs as this somewhat creepy but nevertheless moving conflation of sexual love between two people and the love between God and God’s people.  Since there’s so many great angry break-up songs, I thought the church should start making songs about how much they hate their former sinful nature.  Think of the altar calls!
